You wouldn't ship your app if the design wasn't perfectly executed, but have you considered how accessible your app is? Is your close button just an icon? Does your app make network requests to get data? For both of these examples, and a lot more, we need to consider accessibility. 1 in 5 people have a disability, 70% of disabilities are hidden. Building an app needs to include every person, there is no such thing as the average user. When you already disable 20% of your user base by not building an inclusive product you're missing out on so many incredible viewpoints! In this talk, I’ll give an introduction on how to use the iOS screen reader, VoiceOver, then discuss what we need to do to make our apps accessible to everyone! We’ll cover: Accessibility basics – using label, value, traits and hints Using headings and the rotor to make navigating faster Special gestures – accessibility escape and magic tap Using VoiceOver announcements for data updates Adding custom actions to your UI By the end, you’ll feel comfortable making your apps accessible, enabling everyone to enjoy your latest features
