On an average, every individual spends about 1-2 hours on social media. This generates a lot of data and insights for Social media companies who build machine learning models on this data. But if this data is not carefully monitored, it can introduce and persist biases which can affect the society as a whole. In this talk, I would like to shed some light on how these recommendation engines work, how can companies tackle such problems and how one can be mindful of their actions on social media.
