Test design is a crucial activity in the software testing process. Traditionally, it was solely a human cognitive task, but the rise of Generative AI tools has significantly influenced this practice as these tools have become more popular and accessible. Today, it’s common for testers to leverage Gen AI tools to accelerate the test design process. However, alongside the advantages, there are pitfalls testers must be mindful of when using Gen AI for test design. Examples include shallow responses, lack of context, reliance on incorrect knowledge bases, and more. These issues can lead to poorly designed tests, with gaps in coverage and reduced efficiency. In this talk, I will highlight some of the key pitfalls and offer strategies to avoid them, helping testers maximize the benefits of Gen AI tools in test design.
