Case details

As a freelancer/ contractor I am very often in process of changing my job. Every job/project change requiring from me preparation for interviewing process. If you were freelancer/contractor especially in IT and software development, you already know how this is exhausting and time consuming process. Looking at the Ruby on Rails community, its very obvious that Junior developers or total beginners are also struggling with this problem. Hiring in IT is definitely broken! I am wondering, can we as a community do something better. Ruby On Rails as an idea was pioneer in a lot of great stuff in software development; maybe we can do something also in terms of interviewing? My plan is to represent problems which we have in terms of various ways of interviewing and experience which I am getting almost on a weekly basis. Also, I would try to make some proposition about 'unifying' interviews procedure so we all can benefit from it in terms of saving our precious time and health. Final idea of this presentation is to make us all to think about the problem and maybe organize as community with some kind of 'Conventions' or 'Standardization' in terms of interviewing and what exactly interviewee should know and expect when we talk about interviews. Different company having different needs and that can be reasonable that 2 different companies cannot have the same set of questions or task but my goal/idea is to try to make some percent of that equal for all companies. I as interviewee am so confused with differences in questions and coding tasks I get. Even after 18 years of experience sometime I feel like a n00b after wrong/bad interviews. I hope you can understand my point here with idea for my presentation. For now I dont have more details written but having too long in my head as an idea which I need to present to community in term of Blog or Speak.
